2017 Platform

Theertha Performance Platform: March 17-20, 2017

‘Sound and Crossing(s)’

Overview

The ‘Theertha Performance Platform,’ is a performance art event that engages the street in and around the Borella junction. Organised by the Theertha International Artists’ Collective, the event is scheduled for March 17-20, 2017. The event will also engage the spaces of the Red Dot Gallery for workshops and gallery-based performances and the Postgraduate Institute of Architecture for the opening event, which will be a collective artists’ discussion.

Performance art is an offshoot of visual arts where the artist uses his/her body as a medium of communication. Performance art is a well-developed art practice in many countries, including many countries within the Asian region. The Theertha Performance Platform, in its vision and intent, focuses on the history, learning and practice of performance art, and creates a space for sharing this practice with students, young artists, peer groups and an art viewing public. This year, the Theertha Performance Platform will showcase established performance artists from Sri Lanka and the South Asian region sharing performance art work, as well as emerging student artists exploring context and structure of performance art through lectures, discussions and practice-based workshops. There will also be a sharing of student work on each evening of the platform. The performance events will be framed by the theme ‘Sound and Crossing(s), which attempts to explores the nature and concept of sound as material, performance expression and philosophy. As a conceptual framing for performance it seeks to explore our individual, collective and shared senses of the materiality of sound, and how our bodies inhabit, negotiate and respond to the philosophy and sensations of sound.

An informed publicity campaign of this event is significant, and we request your support and commitment in the execution of this event.
